The Zweibrücken Fashion Outlet is leading the way in sustainable building modernisation and is relying on the water-saving Intellimix taps from Ideal Standard to achieve its climate targets and increase the efficiency of the washrooms.

The challenge

The Zweibrücken Fashion Outlet is one of the most popular shopping destinations near Saarbrücken and comprises 120 shops on over 21,000 square metres of retail space. As part of a comprehensive modernisation programme, the management aimed to implement a series of sustainable modernisation measures, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and water conservation.

To achieve BREEAM certification, a global benchmark for sustainability, the fashion outlet needed an efficient solution for its busy washrooms to both reduce water consumption and address the ongoing problem with soap dispensers.

The solution

In collaboration with Ideal Standard, the Fashion Outlet Zweibrücken launched the Intellimix series, which combines a water and soap dispenser in one stylish tap. With a flow rate of just 1.9 litres per minute - 62 percent less than conventional basin mixers - Intellimix reduces water consumption without compromising user comfort. This innovation eliminates the need for separate soap dispensers and ensures cleaner and more efficient washrooms.

For areas where soap is not absolutely necessary, such as nappy-changing rooms, the Ideal Standard Intelliflow tap is installed. This variant offers the same water savings and a design that matches Intellimix, but without an automatic soap dispenser. It can be combined with the new Ceratherm T angle valve, which provides constant hot water even at a low flow rate of 1.9 l/min, thus promoting comfort and safety. Unlike conventional models, the Ceratherm T angle valve delivers reliable performance even with reduced water flow and ensures safe, pleasant hand washing.

The effect

The Intellimix taps from Ideal Standard have significantly improved sustainability and user satisfaction at the Zweibrücken Fashion Outlet. By replacing the previous 6 l/min sensor taps with 35 Intellimix in three washrooms, the outlet was able to save 500,000 litres of water in just three months - and is well on the way to saving up to 2 million litres a year. This reduction supports the BREEAM certification and strengthens the fashion outlet's name as an environmentally conscious shopping destination.

Intellimix also keeps wash areas cleaner by reducing soap residue and water splashes, making cleaning easier. The sensor-activated taps are particularly popular with customers. The maintenance team, on the other hand, appreciates the modular design, which simplifies the replacement of individual components.

In addition, the logo of the Zweibrücken Fashion Outlet appears on the displays of the Intellimix taps, which strengthens the brand identity and enhances the user experience.

This helps us to fulfil the BREEAM requirements by significantly reducing water consumption and solving problems with conventional soap dispensers. Thanks to the Intellimix taps, which use just 1.9 litres per minute, we have saved an impressive 500,000 litres of water in three months. The washing areas remain cleaner and without soap residue. Intellimix is therefore a major step towards sustainable, user-friendly building technology.
